Balai Kartini Exhibition & Convention Center
Jakarta – Indonesia
Dunia Bricks (Bricks World) has been the biggest annual LEGO® event in Indonesia for many years, and this year we got the opportunity to hold our own display in the event itself! The result was a collaboration with Bricks Indonesia (PT. ALJ Indonesia) and other LEGO® communities. It was also the first time we collaborated with fellow Indonesian RLUG–Komunitas LUG Indonesia (KLI).
Suffice to say, the following event became the largest public LEGO® display created by the community, featuring the biggest amount of MOCs so far. Each community had their own display area, and a friendly competition was held where all creations were judged towards the end of the event. Prizes were given out courtesy of Bricks Indonesia.
Tour of Everything:
One of our members, Kosmas, had made a nifty video showing the event and its display area for a better view of everything! Check it out for a full tour of BhinnekaLUG’s own corner of Dunia Bricks 2016.
Setting Up Everything:
…takes a lot of time. It was Friday night, dim lights and busy crowds moving in and out getting ready for the event. AFOLs (and some KFOLs as well!) moved and carried huge boxes full of MOCs, while display coordinators ran around making sure everything’s all right. BhinnekaLUG had four huge display tables, one of them a large community build, and each table had their own coordinators and assistants to make sure everything’s running smoothly. Busy as it was on setup night, it was still fun and satisfying seeing everything get done together after months of planning!
We took the pictures early Saturday morning pre-opening, nabbing the opportunity before the crowds came in like a freight train!
We weren’t kidding about the freight train thing. Here’s a view of the LEGO® sales area right beside the displays after the opening:
Chinatown Community Build:
By far the biggest community build we have made, the Chinatown diorama is the result of months of planning, work in progresses, discussion and collaboration within BhinnekaLUG and its members. The result was well worth to see the reactions of visitors spotting details and relating to the various festivities going on in the diorama. By the end of the day, the joy was made even more sweet as our Chinatown diorama won the Dunia Bricks Best of Show award!!!
Vignette Community Build:
Apart from Chinatown, BhinnekaLUG also hosted a community-wide event with the Vignette Wall. Everybody is welcome to create an 8 x 16 studs vignette, and the MOC is brought to the event and linked together to create a big vignette wall. The event was posted on Facebook and gathered quite the number of participants and even newcomers!
The Rest of the Displays:
Here are some of the MOCs displayed at the event. Details of each and every one could be seen in the linked video at the top of this article.
